Congratulations!

Congratulations to all my incredible new company members! This was a great audition year, and I was really pleased with how hard everyone worked. The Lumière audition was full of surprises, and the Crunch audition gave me all kinds of ideas for what we can work on as an ensemble this year! I’ll be appointing a Crunch Rehearsal Director soon, but here are the results otherwise:

CRUNCH:
Katie Haines (member)
Alosha Herrold (member)
Michelle Sanders (member)
Kayla Snyder (member)

LUMIERE:
Anna Bair (apprentice)
Alyssa Boob (apprentice)
Jana Bontrager (member)
Jordyn Brooks (member/Reh Dir)
Olivia Burd (apprentice)
Maggie Keener (apprentice)
Liz McNitt (member)
Sam Statham (member)

You guys did a great job tonight – I am so excited for the new year! Watch for an email from me with information about this summer and how to get into our studio company message boards to check for notes and other updates.

CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Friday

WHEW! I spent a lot of the day with my kids – made a big difference for both of them. We painted, went to the Creamery (not a good move – I think I gained 6 pounds from the ridiculous ice cream cone they gave Elijah!), had a picnic lunch… it was a fun day!

Tonight, I printed my cue sheets and runner sheets, got the honor cards printed and filled out and then spent some time practicing. I know, unheard of. However, I am really nervous about not having danced full out in my pointe shoes on that crazy stage during rehearsal, so I want to make sure my choreography is clean. I changed one step to a sissone en pointe instead of a developpĂ© relevĂ© – much easier on the left ankle. Gotta love ibuprofen and BioFreeze. Speaking of which, did any of my advanced students borrow my tube of BioFreeze? I can’t find it anywhere?!?

I have only 12 tickets left, and people keep calling… so for those of you who need a ticket, you need to let me know right away!

Hope everyone has a happy Prom tomorrow… be safe!

Agenda for Saturday:

9:00 teach & work with Sadie on introduction
11:30 eat & work on shoes for Cinderella, call Lisa Bontrager
12:00 finish honor cards, stuff envelopes
12:30 pack props

1:00 pack recital box, trophies, pins, etc.
2:00 finalize all the music and make sure CDs work, sync iPod
2:30 write thank you notes, wash leotard, tights, dance pants, etc.
3:30 wrap presents
4:00 figure out black ribbon for my high heels

4:30 pack dress, hose, heels, etc.

5:00 practice

5:30 dinner, boys, Chuck

6:00 emergency stuff…

GO TO BED EARLY!

Thursday

Wow. Last day for a lot of things… last Crunch rehearsal with Kayla, Bilyana and Gergana. Last jazz class with Jordyn, Ayla and Elara… it’s going to be interesting to see all the changes the summer brings. A few notes to everyone about important ways to take care of yourself before the recital this weekend: 1) drink LOTS of water. No less than 64 oz. a day. 2) Get lots of rest. Remember that you CAN go to bed early! 3) Take your vitamins. 4) Baby those injuries and be smart about your footwear. 5) If you have Track & Field day tomorrow, please don’t tear a hamstring or something. 6) Do something fun and remember that this weekend is going to be GREAT!!!

For those of you who haven’t heard, we are almost sold out. We have only 30 odd tickets left, so you may want to swing by the studio or call before just showing up at the box office on Sunday. There’s nothing more exciting than performing to a sold out house!!!

And yes, I have definitely decided to dance en pointe despite my injury… the old lady is back up on her shoes!

On another note, I have emailed the Center for the Performing Arts about Thank You, Gregory. Let’s see if we can show the tap community our support at this show – it promises to be the best tap concert you’ve seen yet. If you haven’t heard, Jason Samuels Smith is confirmed. He’s worth the price of admission all by himself. GET THERE!

Speaking of the tap community, I’m bummed that I couldn’t make it to Kaleena’s birthday bash in NYC tonight. I thought really hard about how I could make it all work and not go insane, but with the technical madness that happened last week, I was set back a couple of days and just won’t finish everything if I lost a whole day. On that note, I hope Kaleena has the time of her life hanging out with the best tappers in the world tonight! I’m such a proud “tap mommy”!

Gotta start on recital stuff for the night: stuffing envelopes, writing out honor cards, thank you notes, pre-show music, awards ceremony music, print cue sheets and runner sheets, wrap presents, and find shoes for my gown.

Counting down!!

Reminder!

Joint Cinderella rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. sharp tomorrow morning! Looking forward to PJs and donuts!!!!

Today was a productive day…
…Spela – Super Silly Fun Time went well – may have a couple of mom’s who are interested
…David & Elijah – had a great day with mommy, making sloppy joe’s and running errands
…Chuck – feeling much better than the 102 degree fever he had last night

I still have 7 pair of wings to sew before I go to bed, a parent helper email to send out and … oh yes, a shower. J

Don't Miss It!

"Boogie Time with Miss Sarah" at Spela Children's Store and Cafe in State College at 10:30 a.m. Friday mornings in May. Be there with your wiggles and giggles! I can't wait to meet all my new friends!

My boys, David (4) and Elijah (almost 2) will be there to help me, and I'm so excited to see them dance with all the rest of the kids. GREAT FUN FOR MOMS, TOO!

Here's a little special for Mom's - bring your kids to one of my Boogie Hours in May, and you'll get one free trial dance or fitness class this summer!

See you in the morning!
Miss Sarah :)

12 days!!

Why is it that the stomach flu and mandatory attendance ALWAYS happen at the same time in the spring?? Grrr. Elijah and I were both up all night last night. I’ve been able to keep down apple juice, but that ‘s about all I’m brave enough for today.

What I’ve accomplished so far: downloaded Melody Gardot’s new album, My One and Only Thrill (FANTASTIC!!!), emailed my dad David’s order for “garage door” parts so that he can build his miniature garage, talked to Mrs. McGinniss about Kelly making the JV dance team at her new high school (WOOHOO!!! Yay for private coaching!). Other than that, I’ve checked email, updated FB & Twitter, posted to my blogs and checked my scary to do list for things that won’t make me sick. Here’s my verdict for the day:

-          Shower

-          Laundry

-          Enter DVD orders on spreadsheet

-          Costume email to outline what I still need help with alteration-wise

-          Teach at 2:50 until 9:30… and try to stay healthy.

Have a good day, everyone. Get outside!

18 days and counting

Updates:

1.       All t-shirts fit and look good.

2.       Costume Gallery shipment (called yesterday) is out for delivery and will be arriving TODAY. That is some serious customer service!

3.       Other than a couple hats the fell apart or needed adjusting yesterday, all the headpieces are basically done. Big thanks to Jordyn & Jessica for doing elastic on hats and to Elara, Katicia & Aria for hot gluing a million pairs of wings and making bows for Tap Tech 1! Need to finish Ayla’s maid headpiece and cut all the ribbons for Tiny Dancers.

4.       Tutus are being tacked and Alosha’s shirt sleeves are being altered. Still need more things done (see below).

5.       I need 3 more parent helper volunteers for various things – flower sale, bake sale, ushering. Also need a couple floaters and on-call costume people for dress rehearsal.

6.       Gilbert forgot music.

7.       Room assignments are done. Changers are up in the air for Quick Change, finished for Choir Room and little kids.

8.       Left message for Physique Boutique a week ago. Busy phone all day yesterday. Emailed all prior advertisers about program advertising.

9.       Didn’t call Dance Spirit yet.

10.   Left message this morning for Centre Video.

11.   Haven’t bought hoodie, because I HAVEN’T EVEN BEEN OUTDOORS!!!

12.   Need to order leotard still. Going to Physique for my pointe shoes, even though I found them for dirt cheap online. If I weren’t getting a new size, it wouldn’t matter.

13.   Program. Yeah, right.

14.   Drinking lots of water, and I’m still sick. Better now than in a few weeks, I suppose!

To do for today:

1.       Call Dance Spirit

2.       Call Tammy about flower sale

3.       Call Physique Boutique about ads, awards, pointe shoes

4.       Clean my kitchen, put away laundry.

5.       Find costume volunteer to fluff and cut off Ballet Tech 1 tutus

6.       Find costume volunteer to alter Martha’s pants

7.       Print bake sale sign up list

8.       Recruit three more volunteers for dress rehearsal, three more volunteers for recital

9.       Make meatloaf for lunch/dinner J

10.   Order nude leo/black leo.

11.   Try on formal gowns for awards ceremony!

12.   Type up backstage room assignments

13.   Remind Gilbert about music

14.   Call PVHS about apron for Abbie

Gotta run!
